| What about Richard Petty? Has everyone forgot his greatness? Besides, J. Gordon is a mordern day version of both Earnhart and Petty. | |

| -shakes head- personally I wasn't a big fan of Earnheart Sr. didn't like his 'style' of racing, however he was a great racer, wont deny that, won alot of races. I really really dislike Gordon. | |

I don't dislike him, I'm more neutral towards him. He isn't one of the drivers who irritate me...

| I moved this topic to the cafe.
BTW I like Jeff Gordon. Mainly because I met him a few years back and it changed my perspective of the guy. It would be difficult to compare the eras of Earnhardt to Gordon. Earnhardt I believe was already 40 or 41 when "the kid", as he was known back then, started. Show me how many drivers are even competitive after 40. Anyway, Dale said it best on David Letterman after he won the Brickyard 400 in 1995. He told Letterman he was the first man to win the Brickyard. Letterman's response was that Gordon won the inaugural Brickyard in '94. Dale repeated that he was the first man to win it. They both had a laugh. Fact is that off the race track, Dale and Jeff were tight friends or he never would have even said that. It's the fans that created the rivalry and the media compounded it. Right now I am willing to bet that drivers like Kurt Busch, Gordon, and Johnson are thankful to Kyle Busch. Go to a race and you will know what I'm talking about. The "boos" are deafening lol.

Did you know, the Brickyard 400 is the only race in the entire season that Jeff Gordon get the biggest cheers. Gordon evan said it best in his book, that after Earnhart roughed him up in a race early in Gordon's carreer, the very next week, Jeff returned the favor and that really earned Earnharts respect after that.
